Unit 3556
Category: layer dug in 1999
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: room fill
Data Category Information: none
Description: Layer description copied from unit sheet 2286, clean roof. Note: colors are more vivid and stripes can be thicker, but the texture, consistency etc. are v. similar.
Discussion: Unit started see drawing for unit 3549 for a picture before excavating as it was seen in unit 3549. This drawing was done after roof stripes were removed from my side of section wall as you see them continue in the section face. We can now see a brownish line in the section face in what appears to be same context as roof stripes and also in plan in unit 3549 - is this a line of burning?
Recognition: Colored parallel stripes were evident at first scraping
Definition: Easily define as chunk consisting ??? stripes compared to surrounding mixed fill and quite compact
Execution: trowel, Mira and Wendy tools
Condition: dry
Consistency: Firm
Colour: Between 7.5 YR 6/3 and 7.5 YR 7/3. light brown and pink. With lenses of charcoal black, burnt reddish orange, off white.
Texture: sandy clay
Bedding: compound layered
Inclusions: In thin lenses, layers of charcoaly organic/plant remains can be seen, otherwise few inclusions.
