Unit 3571
Category: layer dug in 1999
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: on floor + platform
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: Deposits on top of surface are very compact on top of platform floor layers that are deformed by falling roof.
Layers do pop off from floor. Big dent under ??? roof. South of this deposits are slightly less compact.
Problematic: no smooth surface of top of platform, but have much plaster etc. Are these tumble or are they eroded (later) floors of platform.
In the ??? ??? follow line of as apparent late floor from S. edge of F.170 and E. wall to give buttom boundary of unit (i.e. platform floor).
27/7/99 sloping floor of F.170 brought down from 3564 +3574 joins with lower I.e. same floor. "Higher part" of original latest floor is ??? on a vestige near its SW edge. Main floor exposed is slightly earlier. W. edge of platform F. 170 + E. edge of F. 173 is cut + desturbed by later cut ( possible post - retrival).
Recognition: Deposits immediately under roof.Different layering
Definition: layers are not bedded like roof; immediately above floor of platform
Execution: pick +Mira - tool
Condition: damp, drying quickly to concrete
Consistency: compact
Colour: 10YR 5/3
Texture: sandy silty clay
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: charcoal abundant 3mm ; plaster frags.
Post-depositional Features: cut into in NE. Some damage from roof fall (???)
Basal Boundary: boundary is blackened yellow top of platform

Unit description: Entirely out of flotation (sample 1, flot # 3205, >4mm, 100%) with the exception of a single X-find, which is actually not a bone tool but a long bone shaft cylinder (although it has cut marks, probably for periosteum removal). Although on an absolute scale the unit is quite small, for a supposed floor area it is quite large and contains a range of fragment sizes, including several pieces of 4-5 cm in length. Weathering is moderate, there is a small amount of low-temperature burning, and a tiny bit of high-temperature burning. Little/no digestion is apparent. The fragments all come from sheep-sized animals, and the lone tooth is from a sheep/goat. A variety of body parts represented. No sense of integrity. Looks like fill.Figurine Records: No GroundStone Records: No Heavy Residue Records: No Microfaunal Records: No
