Interpretive Categories: pit fill

Data Category Information: none

Dimensions: 0.27 x 0.21m

Discussion: Fill of central cut in SW platform of sp. 86.
From the first scrape it was hard to find exact edges of the cut, especialy on the N end. It was decided to half section the unit and excavate the S-more clearer edn. After excavating about 3 cm, 2. central, well defined cut was uncovered and easily followed, except for the bottom which was not distinctive/not reached (less likely?). From the profile it was decided to excavate on the N side ??? a distinct upper cut of dark, more crumbly soil. The soil, except for an occasional layer/ lens of clay was typical yellow/green fill type material w/ occasional charcoal bits.

Recognition: light yellowish spot of dirty soil in otherwise pinkish floor fill/ white plaster surface

Definition: central stepped cut was distinct, the overall cut was v. diffuse/ hard to follow

Execution: half sectioned and then brought down

Condition: moist

Consistency: firm and fine w/ some lenses of moist, sticky clay

Colour: range from 10YR 6/6 to thick clay like layers of 10YR 3/2

Texture: sandy clay w/ lenses of clay

Bedding: massive w/ a few convolute layers of clay

Inclusions: brick pieces, medium 5%, charcoal small 5%

Post-depositional Features:

Basal Boundary: the control stepped boundary is distinct and wavy, while outside cut is diffuse, wavy and antropic
