Discussion: Primary part of the heat effectected deposit;within the cut for the fire installation. Final deposit in sequence of FI 416 

 

Recognition: below 4176; much reddier and siltier deposit 

Definition: clear and within limits of cut 

Execution: trowel half-sectioned 

Condition: good moist 

Consistency: friable to loose 

Colour: orangey brown 

Texture: sandy ashy silt 

Bedding: massive - with occasional lenses of ash (rare); grit and charcoal flecks 

Inclusions: ashy lenses, grit and rare charcoal < 1% 

Post-depositional Features: none 

Basal Boundary: heat effected smooth

Unit description: Priority Unit Flot 2387 A layer of fire reddened soil below F416 (see 4173/74/75). Unlike the other levels it contains small amounts of bone, although none that can be identified to element or species. A few of the bone chips are burnt most are mid to dark brown. Dry sieve material was all burnt brown and was undiagnostic frgaments of 003 sized animals. Last number =13
