Discussion: Platform feature in SW corner of space 163.
Appears to be the basal core of a platform overlying infill of a lower building. The top may have been removed by Mellart excavations. Consists of very mixed material including fire installation fragments and mortar, though not clearly structured and therefore not strictly compound layered. 

 

Recognition: Hard raised rectangular area = SW corner sp.163 

Definition: Hard edged with floors lapping over 

Execution: Mattock and trowel from edge 

Condition: Hard dry and compacted 

Consistency: Firm 

Colour: Pale reddish brown 

Texture: Silty clay 

Bedding: Compound layered 

Inclusions: <5% charcoal flecks ; <5% moderate bone 

Post-depositional Features: some root and insect disturbance 

Basal Boundary: clear, smooth, anthropic

Unit description: A small unit from the platform in Building 6. The colour ranges from light brown to black with a large percentage of burnt bone. The average fragment size is larger than 'normal' (i.e. for floors/makeup layers) but most pieces are still highly fragmented and not identifable past general category. identifiable taxa include cattle and pig and sheep. The flot sample 2462, was also fully sorted and recorded. Last Number = F.52
