Discussion: This cut was discovered in plan whilst removing layers of wall 401. The cut was revealed after removing a course of bricks which must have overhung the cut making it into more of a hole in the wall 

Recognition: cut in wall 401 (east face) near base (oven 443) 

Definition: defined on N/S/W by wall 401, + on east side infill between wall 401 + west wall of sp163 

Execution: trowel 

Condition: good 

Shape: top of cut through wall 401 uneven semi-circle - further down - very even half-circle 

Sides: west side - virtually verticle, north side undercut, south side more gentle slope 

Base Break: west - sharp ~ 90 degrees, north <90 degree v. sharp, south ~135 degrees - obtuse
