Discussion: Cut at southern end of wall 401 under base of wall, containing one extra course of mortar + one of brick. So this part of the wall is stepped down for extra stability. The underlying fill was cut into on the north + east side of the cut, the wall laid down + then bricky candy-clay-silt packed up against the western edge of these lower courses in a hollow for extra stability 

Recognition: cut for base of wall 401 (southern end) 

Definition: cut into fill under wall 401 (fill 4321) 

Execution: trowel 

Condition: good 

Shape: square - although only 2 sides cut 

Sides: between 90 and 45 degrees 

Base Break: ~70 degrees 

Base: clopind down towards south 

Orientation: cut - N sides
