Unit 4459
Category: Cluster dug in 1999
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: basket
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: burial; Material: phytolith; Deposition: primary deposition
Discussion: After fine cleaning, the first impressions of the basket were that itis downwards and collapsed in the NW direction. This must be a result of tightly fitting the baby in it and following the infilling of the burial. The basket is woven similarly to the lid and is structured by continued concentric rings. The approximate number of the rings is 43-45 from the existing outer edge to the smallest ring in the bottom/centre. Compaction of the baby slightly damaged the basket but there is no trace of breakage and animal intrusion. The bottom of the basket has a convex shape due to the uneven ground surface underneath.
