Unit 4594
Category: layer dug in 1999
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: burial fill
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: homogeneous
Dimensions: 30cm by 24cm by 2-5cm
Discussion: The fill is situated under the lid of the basket and over and around the skeleton. Possible reason for accumulation of this soil may well be during the backfill if the lid fallen in from the open gap this soil might have got in. It is not very thick and is of similar dimensions to the basket. It contained plaster aggregates and some small plaster fragments were visible within this soil. The dimensions of these small particles and their density can be described as follows; <1cm and <2% in general. The compaction of the soil is also due to this backfill activity after the burial and the pressure on the burial caused also some of the bonesto be squashed and buried into the basket. The fill is also contained in the fine roots and those partly destroyed the jaw.
