Discussion: (4769) was the foundation layer of the oven (F524) and fýlled the cut that was made for this oven. Although its texture varied across its extent, it was an unusually homogeneous deposit. A fine vertical layer of charcoal separated the western end of the deposit from the rest of its extent and is probably the result of ash from the oven falling into a crack in the oven make-up. This could be a product of post depositional factors, or otherwise could mark where the main body of the oven to the east ended and an uncovered area around its opening to the west began.
