Unit 5144
Category: layer dug in 1999
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: oven superstructure
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: oven; Material: plaster; Deposition: homogeneous
Dimensions: 0.35 E/W x 0.15 N/S
Discussion: The oven appears to have been modified at least 2 or 3 times, extending the N.arm westwards. This unit is the last such modification.
It has been made by joining a pre-moulded and hardened bit of plaster/clay onto the existing one, using unmoulded clay to join the two.
Don't really know why they did this to be honest. There are no floors/dirty layers associated with this last phase - only ones surviving are lower. Maybe they were removed when 'levelling' was put ion?
It is likely that this addition could have been made when the southern arm of the feature was re-built.
