Discussion: Got 2 go down 20 more cms!! This seems like, late fill beneath the whole Byzantine thing! Most probably we will hit the midden just after taking a few cms. Lets see what happens. It is too hot, there is too little time and too many things to do. 

 

Recognition: Recognised by its dark greyish brown colour and consistency beneath the late walls of structure and infill. 

Definition: Defined by the trench walls and above 

Execution: Hand pick and trowel 

Condition: Dry 

Consistency: Firm 

Colour: Dark greyish brown 

Texture: silty clay brown 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: salt concretions, small flakes of charcoal, bits of orange clay, some construction material, pottery-few, some bone, simliar to 5528 

Post-depositional Features: fine roots 

Basal Boundary: arbitrary
