Priority Unit:
This unit covering material (red clay mostly) which was mid part of F. 171 ( the bins). Diferently from the N part (with homogeneous red clay layers), this part was either heavily used or built in a different manner. Red caly of this unit was much more compacted, lighter in colour and mixed with different material as described. It also had a foundation of darker soil seen between it and the overall , and a grey, similarly mixed and compacted foundation on the floor (U. 6641)
Note: both edges (lips) were of soft, red clay.
New interpretation (PD and MS): 15 /08 /00
this material taken off is in fact so similar to the floor packing in the rest of mid sp.158 that we assumed the following:
1/ layer of fine, red clay that in fact was the bin was removed by scraping and brushing in years.
2/ according to that, the rest of the packing in mid. Sp.158 will be added to this unit as separate sample number.
