Discussion: This is a relatively big pit dug into a larger pit, the function of which is difficult to specify. It was probably Hellenistic in age. Interestingly, both pits are older than layer associated with storage building excavated in the season 2002.

This feature was transferred to Space 598 in 2015. 

 

Recognition: color and consistency 

Definition: pit dug out into an older pit, upper part 

Execution: trowel 

Condition: dry and hot 

Consistency: loose in some parts, from friable to compact in other areas 

Colour: from light brown to dark brown, also orange, beige and red 

Texture: sand mixed with burnt clay 

Bedding: mixed deposits 

Inclusions: pottery, animal bones, obsidian, CBM, clay 

Post-depositional Features: burnt deposits 

Basal Boundary: arbitrary
