Unit 7906
Category: layer dug in 2003
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: burial fill
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: heterogeneous
Dimensions: 1,4m x 0,5 m x .2-.3 m depth
Description: Poorly defined edges-fill soil is generally a dark grey and fairly loose; cut extends into west wall of structure. Bones (2 tibia visible initially) seem to be in poor condition. Grave goods (ceramics, bead, and glass) seem to be in good shape, though.
Discussion: Cut extends through double wall at west edge of Space 100. Edges are not too distinct; west edge remains invisible. The fill itself, where the cut runs through the wall, is very heterogenous, including bits of mud brick, ceramic, bone, and obsidian--the burial fill seems to consist of the material that was removed from the neolithic deposit when making the cut. Skeleton is oriented E-W, w/ the head to the west. It is in rather poor condition, though grave goods are well preserved. Some skeletal elements are displaced, or perhaps foreign bone fragments are in the general area of burial. Coffin nails and mineralized wood are present in a fairly regular pattern around the skeleton, suggesting a coffin outline. Cranium is face down on right scapula; mandible attached. Cervical vertebrae follow the bend--seems to be a primary burial position rather than post-depositional disturbance. A rodent burrow runs along the right leg, through the thoracic vertebrae, and exits in the NW corner of the grave cut.
Recognition: soil change
Execution: trowel and dental tools
Condition: blowing dust…ick.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
