Discussion: 1yr old child in basket, lying on its stomach with legs underneath the body. Flexed with R leg on top of L leg. 8184 was dug from the same level as the other two burials on the floor [sk 6681 and 6682], but 8184 was earlier. There might be little time differences between these three burials because 8184 was not disturbed by the other two notwithstanding close proximity. 8184 was also deeper. A number of artefacts was found in association with 8184: dark-coloured beads probably in a strand (x1) were found around R humerus, light-coloured beads (probably stranded) were found on L humerus (x2). Other beads made of clay (x6) were scattered around the stomach area, probably disturbed by animal activity. A single valve of shell (x3) was found under the cranium, and was internally covered in red pigment (ochre?). Adherent to concave surface of the shell (which dislodged when dry) was a chunk of yellow material. Also near the head under the cranial bones was a bone pin (x4) with its pointy tip embedded within a clump of green pigment. The green pigment was probably in a sort of container or receptacle with the bone pin stuck into it, and it seems malachite. A fragment of dried wood (x5) was found near the bone pin.
There are also three samples taken from this skeleton. S1 is an upper incisor for DNA. S2 is yellow ochre under pelvis and hips (0.5cm thick and 5x5cm dimensions). S3 are phytoliths around the skull: they are unlikely to have been part of a basket (since it was not following the same pattern) but may be part of a cloth covering the skull. İt was also not following the basket pattern.
