Unit 8353
Category: layer dug in 2001
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: dirty floor
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: 1.3m N-S X .0.85m E-W
Discussion: Removal of phytolith/salty surface (dirty floor) that was the basal boundary of units 8277 and 8251.
The floor spanned the entire area of sp. 158 (former) to the storage bin areas. When the threshold was removed it didn't remain continuous deeper down. In the south of the threshold there were a series of compound layered salt surfaces (5-6 surfaces in ~2cm) under the 1st surface that was the basal boundary of 8277 and 8251.
To the north of the former threshold, however, there was only one surface (the one that the threshold was built on) and then what appeared to be a 1-2cm thick packing w/out floors that would coorespond to the ones in the south. This northern area will be taken as 8358.
After removal of 8358 partially in the norht, it was clear that the basal boundary of 8358 (rubble from oven redeposition and sand) went UNDER the floor that I left at the bottom of this unit- which was probably the last floor of the compound layered phytolith/ salt surface that comprised this unit. Ths basal boudary will now be taken down as 8358.
