Unit 8394
Category: layer dug in 2002
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: oven floor
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: Removed what was lying directly on top of this #3 floor of the F. 785 oven (oven base) just like on the upper floor (U. 8392) and one above black flecks are clearly visible on orange/pinkish floor surface. Very well made base, now makes a whole with mouth basal surfac. My impression is this was the first base to had been made, yet to lift it. In the upper (U. 8392) base the oven mouth surface wasn't traceble as well as here, it was rather worn.
Ashy towards the oven walls (E and W), phytoliths occasional started lifting the rim of the oven. Extend of heated soil clearly visible beneath the rim (brown ring around).
Oven was "touching" the wall only in the NW corner, along the W and S wall clay was redeposeted as packing.
