Unit 8420

Interpretive Categories: floor
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: 80 cm N-S, 54 cm E-W
Discussion: Continuation of excavation of F. 786. In U. 8391, I reached a reddish clay and white plaster mottling. In this unit I will attempt to follow some plaster in the ridge in the NW corner of the unit to see if I can find a proper bin floor. I find no bin floor; only a dirty floor surface that seems to match up with the floor on the south sideof the bins and the floor in the other bin (F. 770) but I doubt this relationship.
The sediment in this unit was mottled and varied. There was a great deal of soft white plaster in "blobs". I tried to follow these but they were localized. There was also a red bricky material and a bit of gray sand. Directly above the floor in many areas was a black ashy (very thin) layer. The floor is dark with salts and patches of soft plaster. It appears to me that this bin (F. 786) was built on top of this floor because the southern bin wall is continuous with the floor and it is plastered on the outside as a continuation of the floor plaster that was exposed after F. 1000 was removed. However, I also think it may have existed prior to the floor. While I have stopped at a salty "surface" it appear very different than the floor in the rest of the space. It may continue but I would guess that the wall is I a different spot. Much of the overburden, especially on the east side, would have to be removed to make this clear.
