Unit 8637

Category: layer    dug in 2003

Area: North

Interpretive Categories: mortar

Data Category Information: none

Discussion: Greasy solid mortar that actually goes around the walls in sp. 201 - very distinctive. There was a peculiar junction at the corner of walls F. 763 and 636 - the mortar of F. 636 and the bricks of F. 763 are diagonally joint at the 3rd brick layer, counted from the bottom, photos have been taken.
Probably some sort of levelling mortar, up to 8 cm thick, the thickest mortar layer in the wall, here it joints three courses of bricks.
