Unit 8651
Category: layer dug in 2003
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: mortar
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: 6.5 x 0.40 x 0.06-10 m
Discussion: We removed these two layers of mortar between lowermost courses of bricks and came down to the very bottom course.
Mortar is very likely the same that was used in the other walls of space 201 at that height.
N, S and E wall have this type of mortar as two layers, only the W wall has that lense of midden deposit on top of the very bottom course of bricks.
Upper mortar layer of the two was very thick, up to 10 cm - which is thicker than the brick, where as going towards eastern and westernwall it goes thinner - up to 6 cm.
Possibly levelling the depression in the middle or designed to bear more pressure in the middle section of wall 174.
