Unit 8683
Category: layer dug in 2003
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: brick and mortar
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: 1.81 x 0.38 m; h=0.89 m
Discussion: This unit comprises the S wall (F. 1019) of sp. 88. The wall consists of 10 rows of bricks and mortar layers inbetween. The bricks are firm, made of silty clay, yellowish-brown and light brown in colour (see unit 8681). Mortar is graish-brown to dark brown in colour, made of silty loam (see unit 8682).
The wall lies on top of and earlier wall, which is not excavated. We removed the unit to the level of the bricks of the earlier wall, which are dark gray in colour and narrower than the bricks of the S wall.
After removing the S wall we came down to a mortar deposit (unit 8685), which is between the S wall and the wall F. 1022.
