Unit 8857
Category: skeleton dug in 2004
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: skeleton
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: The burial was discovered within the midden in the W portion of sp. 226. No grave cut was evident. The fill layer (8855) was indistinguishable from the surrounding soil. It seems that the individual was buried directly in the midden. The skull was first discovered. The bones are quite fragmentary, probably due to the occurence of the burial close to the surface and to the organic materials in the midden in which it was placed. The vertebrae were missing (except for 1 or 2 cervicals, possibly the sacrum). Animal burrows were evident in the middle area of the thorax and in the area of the missing left leg. In addition, there is a strip of orangish brick at the bottom of the skeleton running NE-SW. The right femur is partially cut by this orange brick.
