Area: North

Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: heterogeneous
Dimensions: W-E 230 cm; N-S 50 cm
Discussion: U. 8866 comprises the mudbrick lining of grave F. 1452.
It is worth pointing that the bricks (and brick fragments, since some of them are small and irregular in shape) narrow as they go deeper into the cut. There are also pieces of bricks on the bottom of the cut. They were first noticed upon removal of U. 8854 (the first arbitrary layer of the midden in sp. 226) and these are the southernmost bricks in what looks like a double-lined S egde of the burial cut.
As we proceeded with the excavation of the grave, we removed the vertically place mudbricks. We also removed the ''false bottom'' of the burial (i. e. the horizontally laid mudbricks). The bricks are made of silty clay, beide in colour. Few of them yielded Neolithic sherds. The biggest bricks were 55 x 18 x 15 cm.
The bricks of the ''false bottom'' were laid horrizontally and formed a compact layer, which covered the skeleton. In the W and the central part of the grave they were disturbed (animal holes and human activity probably) bu in the E part they formed a flat surface.
Both whole mudbricks and pieces of mudbricks were used but they fitted very well together.
