Discussion: U. 8888 was first indicated by a cut in a wall (the E wall of sp. 243). The W-E orientation of the cut and colour/texture differences (plus its proximity to nearby burials) indicated it was likely to be a burial but the relatively narrow width (38 cm at W end of cut, 53 cm at center of cut wall) aws canse for doubt. However, the skull was reache approximately 11 cm below the current surface. Due to the shallowness of the grave, the skeleton (U. 8890) was in poor condition. The E end of the burial cut extends beyond the E edge of 40x40 area. Numerous animal holes, in addition to proximity to the surface, have resulted in much damage to the skeleton. The burial fill was fairly difficult to distinguish from the surrounding soil in color, but it seemed to be just a bit darker. It was also less compact than the soil surrounding the cut, which was the primary guide for excavation. The fill was unstratified and the inclusion content was low. Texture was sandy clay loam. Infill was primary.
