Unit 10260
Category: layer dug in 2004
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: building fill
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: Infill, mottled and multi depositional, rich dumps. Signature of finds is midden-like but similar in deposition and inclusions to infill of Building 2, Space 117. Rate of infill appears to be fast but not 'processed' as the majority buildings. As dug this season the space is sectioned, continuing west beyond the LOE. Section shows clearly differential banding falling from north to south therefore filling from the north.
Basal horizon rich in artefacts to the south , allocated cluster (10264). Is could be that this material rolled to the south as fill piled up at the northern end, however the integrity of the material will address that question.
To the north the fill, also very rich in artefacts but this was apparent from the top as soon as this deposit was defined containing animal bone and disarticulated adult human. The fill was traced into a severe overhang in the wall where near floor horizon an articulated infant skeleton (10267) was found.
The skeleton was definately within the fill, about five centimetres beneath, over and around. A new number was given to the fill (10266) but is the same as (10260). This was over a thin organic rich deposit (10265) which appears to be coprolite.
So, at the basal interface to the north was apparently coprolite over which the infant was placed, tucked in the lean of the wall overhang immediately before backfilling took place.
To the centre the fill came directly onto beautifully smooth floors of the stepped platforms and bench, to the south of which was a concentration of artefacts given cluster (10264).
Deposit equated with 11985, dug in 2005 season (FS 18/07/09)
Volume roughly estimated - FS
have checked flot and archive sample database - no samples were taken. Presumably this unit dates to 2004 Fast track policy. Have assumed therefore there was no dry sieve - FS 2009

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
X Finds Material: nothing recorded
Finds Material Stored: nothing recorded
