Unit 10739
Category: layer dug in 2004
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: midden layer
Data Category Information: Location: in abandoned building; Deposition: finely bedded
Discussion: This was dug with the intention of determining the relationship between the wall collapse and the oven attached to the south wall of space 229. the slot has made it apparent that the middin was both over and the oven, so at the moment we can assume that the oven was built after the middin had started to accumulate against the south wall of the house. It can therefore be seen as an extension. This sequence of events is supported by the presence of plaster on the end of the south wall which appears to have belonged to a doorway which was later blocked, possibly as part of the oven building project, although it would have left no obvios way to get in or out of the building (prehapse a ladder).
Updated SF- trial area cut to detemine relationship of walls to Sp.242, oven in B.82 and underlying middens. This unit of middens predate construction of Sp.242 and oven for B.82 and cut through horizon allocated as Sp.426 therefore allocated to Sp.426 (SF 17/07/10)
