Unit 11407

Category: layer    dug in 2004

Area: South

Interpretive Categories: makeup for floor

Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: floor (packing only); Material: pise-like; Deposition: heterogeneous

Discussion: Layer very compact in places, looser in others. Uneven, very full of inclusions: everything now suggests we are reaching the end of the building: platforms are being released, and this floor layer is appearing all over the place (e.g. under F.1325), in the old oven). Now a burnt patch exposed, maybe a 'builder's fire'??

Volume roughly estimated (KN 20.07.09)

Recognition: colour, lack of inclusions compared to floor below (which is full of grit, charcoal)

Definition: clear

Execution: trowel, hand mattock

Condition: dry

Consistency: compact, tough inplaces

Colour: brownish redish brown

Texture: silt

Inclusions: bone, pot, obsidian, stone, one half-bead, [art of an antler core - much more than usual for floor layers in this building
