Unit 12518
Category: Cut dug in 2006
Area: South
Data Category Information: Description: pit
Discussion: Cut is thought to be a pit. It may have a primary and secondary function. Primary: initial excavation with a quarry-like function relation to getting at old building material for reuse. In this instance the pit cuts through old burnt demoltion rubble and an earlier out-of-use midden area. It is uncertain how the midden material would have been useful for rebuilding, but it may have been necessary to cut through this to get at the building bubble. Secondary function (or primary if not quarry related): This would be as domestic waste pit. C.f., F1531 for further discussion about the pit.
