Unit 12543
Category: Layer dug in 2006
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: grave fill
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial
Discussion: Neolithic infant/neonate burial fill. The burial was disturbed during excavation such that the head was displaced. The left shoulder was also displaced. The burial position was somewhat unusual because of the change of the body from on the left side in the upper body to the back. In addition, the extended right arm was striking as were the flexed legs. A yellow residue was found in the thoracic region, much like the othe rneonate (Sk 12506) found to the north in the same space. Possible phytoliths were found in the lower levels of the skeleton. The burial fill was differentiated from the surrounding soils by the high concentration of salts.
