Unit 1293
Category: layer dug in 1996
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: room fill
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: This has been a very ambiguous layer with respect to those to the north - at various points it seemed to underlie and then overlie them, in many ways the angle / gradient between this burnt and those unburnt deposits to the north in near vertical. however, it does appear that (1293) underlies ultimately (1300), but in all likelihood all the deposits 'abutting' (1293) are more or less contemporaneous dumps / collapse with some inter digititation between the two (see sketch)

Unit description: A single bone - Bos mandible fragment, weathering not severe, partially burnt. manganese staining. Sample 1 >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded completely. Fairly small sample with roughly equal amounts of sheep-size and large mammals. No diagnostics, but not all tiny pieces; some up to 2-3 cm. More than half are burnt, low and high temperatures. Also a piece of burnt eggshell. Well preserved, no digestion. Most don't look particularly kicked around. No coherence. Looks like sterile fill, or maybe low traffic floor.
