Unit 13453
Category: Layer dug in 2006
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: wall painting
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: wall/blocking; Material: plaster; Deposition: layered (wall plaster); Basal Spit: painted
Discussion: Red ochre painting on plaster wall above floor (13451). Layers of plaster (13449, 13450, 13451) had been covering painting. Clearly from early on in houses history. Bottom part of painting, top part destroyed by erosion and truncation. Painting has lots of thin lines, possible vulture (?). Would appear in phase with floos (13456).
Fragment of possible ?figurative wallpainting, as it bears resemblance most to motifs showed by the so-called "vulture" wallpaintings = three toed feet, wings of parallel bands, bodies marked with open ovals/circles containing three short lines, etc. However, extent painting is so truncated as to make any comparison highly subjective.
