Unit 13725
Category: Layer dug in 2006
Area: Trench 5
Interpretive Categories: construction
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: 2m NS, 0.8m EW, 0.5m deep
Discussion: ER 9.8.2006: The yellow colour the mudbricks and the strict rectangular outline of the structure render an interpretation as a late grave most likely. Construction is regular, one brick about 10cm deep and 30cm long
On 09/08/06, we took out the N wall in order to assess the stratigraphy of the possibly EC structures under and next N to the grave, since the grave 2403 was dug into those. Sample 1 was taken out of that wall. Since we were advised to take the wall out by mattock (Shahina), we do not separate the finds from mudbrick and mortar- they all go as unit 13752.
Unit continuation sheet ER 31.6. 2007: The SE corner of grave feature 2403 was sitting in the profile baulk during the 2006 season. After removal of the topsoil unit 14220 off the baulk it immediately appeared. Naomi drew it to 1:20 on 07/504 tracing last year's exposal of the unit from 06/903.
TEB 2.7. 2007: Photo taken of east-end of grave (west-facing) of unit 13725 mud brick wall.
TEB 3.7. 2007: 13725 removed on the east and south sides. The west side was left to stop the west end of the grave from potentially collapsing. Ceramic sherds, bone and few obsidian pieces were found either in the mud brick, or in association with it because of the animal disturbance. In total, roughly 120 litres (15 buckets) was the volume of the unit removed (east and south sides) so far.
