Unit 15161
Category: Layer dug in 2010
Area: Trench 5
Interpretive Categories: late disturbance
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: 2,5m EW - 2m NS - 0,02 to 0,2m deep
Discussion: Disturbance cutting F. 3302 and 2427. Visible as reddish, hard fill next to and under grey mudbrick of those features. Southern extention of the unit unclear, because not excavated. Relation to F.5068 and 5076 not visible at present level. Excavation of unit not continued after scraping walls and taking off up to 10cm because other units had priority. For details see plan 10/512, which was drawn after scraping.
The reddish fill seems to undercut mudbrick of F.3302, what is very strange. Otherwise it seems like a post-Chalcolithic disturbance because of the stones, tiles, red mudbrick and stray human bones it contains. The human bones were not found articulated, clustered or in any kind of meaningful relation to each other. The artefacts date the disturbance to Byzantine or post-Byzantine time, but the relation to F.3302 is confusing. The cut seems to be rather straight and 15161 runs partially unter 3302, what seems unusual.
The disturbance probably extended into the upper layers of fill in Space 345 as well. F.5068 and 5076 are not visibly separated from 15161 by colour or texture.
