Discussion: SCS 2010: After the excavation of 15172, this unit describes the following layer. It was not excavated, merely the top drawn and a photo taken.

RHB 31.7.2011: Arbitrary layer of room fill in Space 345. The fill, rather than in clear layers is an uneven mix of silty brown/grey soil and lumps of both pure white and orangey creamy clay which may have been for pottery production and a coarser dark brown clay with many inclusions particularly in the southwest of the unit. The fill had many concentrations of pottery including some unfired pottery pointing to evidence of pottery production, a polished stone find and the lumps of high quality clay support this interpretation. Each concentration of pottery appears to be placed on the same level and frequency of pottery bases facing down on the same level suggests they were deliberately placed in the fill at the same time perhaps on a compacted layer of the fill during the process of filling the space. The coarser clay and collapsed plaster, some of which was painted, indicate the building collapse and indeed the walls of this space are very unevenly plastered. Several ground stone objects including a possible mortar (x11) and pestle (x8) were found along with a bone needle (x3), stone weight (x9) and a shaped stone object like a stamp as example of unusual finds which are odd to have been thrown away in the room fill along with the pottery. Several very small green stones were also samples which could be linked to pottery production. The unit was closed at an arbitrary level.

Finds Room Information:

All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.

X Finds Material: nothing recorded

Finds Material Stored: nothing recorded
