Unit 15261

Category: Layer    dug in 2007

Area: TP

Interpretive Categories: infill

Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous; Basal Spit: basal deposit

Discussion: This is an infill placed underneath another infill (15244) and on top of the floor (15809) of Building 74 in its W part recorded as space 326.
It was limited by walls recorded as units: 15225 (N), 13578 (S), 15298 (E), 13579 (W).
It was relatively homogenous and consisted of dark brown and greyish soil mixed up with fragments of mudbricks and other constructional elements (plaster pieces of earlier floor). Several pieces of crashed floor present in upper layers (15224, 15206, 15207) were also noticed in this infill.
Five cattle mandibles, two scapulas, one skull, one rib and two horn cores were recorded within this unit, although they appear to have been dalibarately placed on top of the floor (15809). They are interpreted as an abandonment deposit.
Due to the conservation and following lifting up of those bones the exploration of the infill was slowen down. Unfortunately, the bones were lifted up with huge fragments of the floor (15809) unabling the full reconstruction of the context of this unusual deposit.
Nevertheless, it seems that at least some of the bones (the rib and one of the horn cores) were placed in shallow holes in the floor.
In the E-central part of the infill a cluster of stones was found in situ, also placed on the floor. It was recorded as a separate unit (15810).
