Unit 1557
Category: layer dug in 1996
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: bin fill
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: bin; Material: occupation; Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation)
Dimensions: o.56 x o.38 x 13 d.
Discussion: Lowest fill - I think - of bin type of feature 12. Generally clayish dump with mixture of ash and plaster some of them could be collapsed from the wall This is similar to later fills removed in 1995.No sign of in situ burning. Possible contamination could be result of animal hole at NE, layer rises at NW corner.
After removal of fill / layer 1577 we seem to be at the bottom of this feature, there seems to be plaster on the internal edges and the base, though it's patchy on the base. There may be variant re-plasterings.
The walls are pretty thin - c 4cm and plastered inside and out.
