Unit 15653
Category: Layer dug in 2007
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: wall stub
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: wall/blocking; Material: brick&mortar
Dimensions: surviving extents: c.0.35m NS x c.0.3m EW x c. 0.19m high
Description: additional information: foundation trench 16.
SW corner = 1035.078 E/1160.633N.
Formation level = 1012.44m ASL max depth 0.33m
Discussion: -architectural -exact function unclear. Identified as one brick unit (so no feature number) although this 'bricky' material did contain fragments of residual plaster (white, cemented marl/limestone, no inclusions, no obvious signs of lamination) on its north and west face.
-two possible interpretations:
a) most likely! Stub of surviving wall which together with f.2235 to the north formed the east boundary of space 286 and part of the west boundary of space 287. Together both of the walls (f.2235 + u.15653) form an entrance between these spaces.
B) also possible! Residual structure of a bench protruding north from the NE corner of platform f.2240.
These hypotheses will always remain hard to prove because of the SE truncation of this unit by pit 13128.
Volume estimated
Recognition: a lump of bricky stuff, resepcted by floors
Definition: unclear, floor survival
Execution: recorded ->removed
Condition: cool, windy
Consistency: firm-crumbly at periphery
Colour: mid yellowish brown
Texture: slightly sandy silt
Bedding: composite -effectively structure but northern and western face has very patchy residual plaster (plaster is discreet and was lump in since it bore no obvious relationship to surrounding floors -see over for description!)
Inclusions: none noted
Post-depositional Features: truncated on south and east by midden at 13128
Basal Boundary: clear rests on plaster + middeny stuff

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
X Finds Material: nothing recorded
