Unit 15739
Category: Skeleton dug in 2007
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: burial
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: 25 cm x 25 cm x 3 cm
Discussion: Baby in midden, bent over itself with head and body bent over the legs and facing south. Left arm is flexed at elbow, upper arm at approximately 90 degrees to the body, lower arm at 90 degrees to the humerus and roughly aligned with the head and body. Right arm is tightly flexed with radius and ulna lying beneath the humerus, in alignment with the body. Left leg is extended at knee, bent at hip, distal end of leg near to the left of the head. Right leg under the body, with right femur crossing the vertebrae and right tibia going back under the cranium (knee is flexed). No burial cut, no sign of a basket, and a few animal bones mixed in with the pelvis and lower ribs, therefore baby was probably simply placed in the midden.
