Unit 1646
Category: layer dug in 1996
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: fill/midden
Data Category Information: Location: external; Deposition: finely bedded
Discussion: Remnants of midden type deposits in southern half of 106taken back to wall (c 10cm) heavily disturbed by animals and roots. Although section shows wall 1631 overlying 1646, in fact 1646 is probably later since it sits against wall face which was present further back in the section. 1631 therefore seems to represent top of wall at its east end where it was subsequently cut away by 1643 but the extent of the wall at this level is hard to be specific about because it was so eroded and disturbed.

Unit description: This is a very small unit comprising mainly caprine fragments long bone fragments, some of which are charred and some of which have epiphyses surviving. One large mammal fragment was also recovered. The unit has very little interpretative potential. Following 2014 protocol, only a single fragment was recordable - a premolar of a canid with swollen roots but the ID of this was a little uncertain. Part of a worked bone ring was recovered from the flot 428.5.1. (100%, 4mm) (f2). The rest was small scrap except for a couple of large mammal fragments.Figurine Records: No GroundStone Records: No Heavy Residue Records: No Microfaunal Records: No
