Unit 16556
Category: Skeleton dug in 2008
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Skeleton
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: 0.18m N-S x 0.10m E-W
Discussion: This is a Neolithic infant skeleton found in the truncated wall of building 75. The infant was buried 50cm west of the oven in the Southern part of the building. A pit was excavated adjacent to the burial but it was not related to 16556. Most of the skeleton has eroded out of the section excavated by Mellaart over 40 years ago. This is a neonate. Phytoliths were sampled (s3) from the base of the skull and the ribs. The neonate may have been buried in a basket.
