Discussion: Ash from in situ burning in external space. The area of scorching was larger than the ashy fill.

Colour: light gray above dark gray 

Texture: silty ash. the upper part of the deposit was more ashy with more charcoal below possibly where the in situ burning had reduced the material to ash where oxygen could get to the fire 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: frequent charcoal lower in deposit; occasional burnt clay fragments 

Post-depositional Features: none 

Basal Boundary: clear above scorched area of deposit below
