Unit 16889
Category: Layer dug in 2008
Area: Trench 5
Interpretive Categories: pit fill
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: NS 1,45m - EW 0,85m
Discussion: Pit identified as cutting through wall F.5051, and by soil colour and compactness. This drawn because we hit a layer of two tiles and two large stones. Possibly the base of a pit, although soil beneath it was the same. Tiles were Late Roman / Byzantine, but pit also contained large quantities of Chalcolithic material (pottery), particularly concentrated in the South corner.
Two articulated cattle? Vertebrae found, and location recorded. Large pot also uncovered in South side of pit, but undercut section edge, so probably belonged to the room fill, not the pit. Finds recovered on 2.8.2008 came from an animal disturbance.
Recognition: disturbed mudbrick wall and installation, loose soil
Definition: clear
Execution: trowel, hand shovel
