Unit 1851
Category: layer dug in 1996
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: clay layer in pit
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: scoop; Deposition: homogeneous; Basal Spit: basal deposit
Discussion: starting with an 'L'-shaped bit at a high - level, cut to E & N it continues under the whole area occupied by overlying deposit 1848. This is a soil dump in a cut/pit. The precise stratigraphy is not quite clear & I suspect this is not bottomed and probably runs under the fill in the E end of the cut i.e.. the fill below cut (1656) where I originally stopped. It wasn't clear if 1656 was bottomed as we had a section separating it from fallen wall moulding? So basically, the whole thing is mixed up. So 1851 will still be there - in part at least in 1997.
