Unit 18531
Category: Layer dug in 2009
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: brick,wall collapse
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: heterogeneous
Dimensions: length ne-sw, width nw-se
Discussion: brick elements of collapsed wall ( collase). Connection of plaster at n. end of collapse indicates along with position and alignment of coursing that this collapse was clearly associated with eastern wall of B.80 adding a further seven or eigh courses to this wall.
Good preservation of plaster on underside (like that on the walls) as well as clear retention of the coursing pattern throughout. Most of its length suggest that this was a fast event. IE that the wall was pushed over, rather than being left to erode/collapse naturally - possibly in preparation for the levelling/terracing beginning with phase 344.
Central portion of the collapse; the upper surface was badly scorched. Possibly associated with B79 burning event or burning of posts locally in B.80. Almost certainly part of w-face of B.79 west wall collased with B.80 wall.
NB/ this was recorded as part of F.5014. The link has been removed because whilst it represents collapse of that wall F.5014 , in its current state it is a 'fill' context. SF 19/02/10
