although plan and section numbers are checked, the unit 18917 is the plaster above the niche in the wall.
The earliest sublayer is thick ca. 0,01m, and the later approx. 24 layers are 0,01m all together. The later layers are all very regular and similar, suggesting that the replastering was done in a regular pattern. Perhaps it is from the same occasion, perahps it is one base layer and later replasterings. In the lower end, the first plaster layer is thicker (0,015m) and protruding/offset. Perhaps It covered something protruding from the horizontal niche, such as a beam. There the replastering layers are thinner too, 0,005m thick in total. Measurements are hard to make as it is irregular and the plaster is fractured. Roughly, the offset is 0,012m out of the wall, 0,02m further down and inclining 45 degrees with a convex inside. The same but mirrored could be seen below the niche in 18916 plaster.
Recognition: white plaster(chalk) in approx. 25 layers
Definition: on brick wall. Easy to see boundaries, sticks to wall
Execution: carefully removed with trowel few layers at a time
Condition: dry, well preserved
Consistency: in a few spots on the surface, loose. Otherwise soft
Colour: ligh grey/white. Mainly homogenous
Texture: chalk, 50% or slightly less + fixation layer (white/grey)
Bedding: layered (chalk/fixation/chalk...)
Inclusions: less than 2% sand, single grains, diameter .0005m
Post-depositional Features: bee hive on opposite (southern facing) wall. Some holes in plaster
Basal Boundary: rather abrupt, on a wavy brick surface
