Discussion: This unit was found underlying the plaster unit (18991) and distinguishable by its contrasting orange brown colour. It is likely this makeup layer was applied shortly before a plastering event. The make-up layer appears to have been used to remodel the shape of the platform (F.3442), possibly as a means of reducing the quantity of plaster required. It was observed that the thickness of this unit was highly variable (2-5cm) and it was especially thick towards the southern edge of the platform where it had been used to raise the height of the platform significantly (3cm). Also along the southern edge of the platform this unit had been used to ‘fill in’ an unusual depression (5cm) in the underlying plaster floor. It was speculated that this depression may have been created by someone accidentally stepping on the platform edge whilst it was still wet.
