Unit 19161
Category: Layer dug in 2016
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Burial Fill
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: homogeneous
Description: Top part of the fill consists of packed plaster fragments
Discussion: Backfill of burial cut for adolescent skeleton sk. 19165. Fill contains some quantity of plaster & mudbrick fragments showing that it was dug through plaster floors & make-up material & then backfilled with the same material. Top of fill consisted of packed plaster frags suggesting some attempt to rebuild plaster floor over this burial. This would have made the burial very visible, however the plaster packing was cracked & slumping into the burial when make-up layer 19150 was laid down demonstrating that the plaster packing was not an adequate long-term solution for sealing the burial
