Unit 19490

Category: Layer    dug in 2012

Interpretive Categories: Infill Layer

Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: pit; Deposition: heterogeneous

Dimensions: 3.8m NS x 1.3m EW x 0.99m thick

Discussion: The unit was first thought to be an infill layer in the midden in the NE corner of space 84. But after excavating, the border between the infill and midden was very steep in some places, so it seems that the layer was deposited in a cut (U 20439). The cut and filling, that covered the easternmost area of the building, was possibly made in the midden prior to building platforms in building 108, as a makeup or preparation layer for future burials. The layer was grey in the upper and brownish in the lower part (probably due to differences in moisture). It had inclusions of charcoal and some medium sized red and brown burned pieces of bricks and medium sized hearth/oven fragments in it.
