Discussion: Neolithic skull sitting on base of cranium; baked black by fire in B. 77. Carbonized brain tissue present endocranially (sample 1). One of two skulls in cut at approximately same level. 19500 baked significantly greater than skull 19501. Disarticulated black post-cranial bones found scattered throughout pit. These bones may belong to skull 19500, or skull 19501, or to another individual.
The presence of the carbonized brain tissue suggests the head was placed into the grave pit when flesh was still present. The presence of the upper cervical vertebrae suggests severance of the head of the upper neck.
